Cappadocia is a must-visit destination in Turkey that grabs your heart from the moment you arrive. “Kapadokya” in Turkish, is not the name of a city but of a historical region in south central Turkey. It’s the land of beautiful horses in Asia Minor with an atmosphere of a Disney fairy tale. The largest towns in the region are Kayseri and Nevşehir, while the most visited for sightseeing are Göreme, Ürgüp, and Uçhisar. With its “fairy chimneys” and cities carved out of the soft rock deposited by ancient volcanoes, the region is visually surreal.

There are plenty of options for moving around Cappadocia. For a twi-day itinerary, it’s important to fit within the tight timeframes and study the available options beforehand:

Rent a car. This option is your key to freedom and flexibility, but remember about narrow streets, which make parking difficult.

Organized tours. Cappadocia tours are presented as the Red Tour for the north and the Green Tour for the south if you prefer not to drive on your own.

Extra Tip: If you want to choose only one, the Green Tour seems to be a better option.

ATV. If you have time, don’t miss the opportunity to try this option!

On foot. Cappadocia is relatively small, and some valleys are connected by hiking trails.

By taxi. You’ll see plenty on the streets. However, the most secure option is to ask your hostel or hotel to arrange this for you.

No matter which mode of transportation you choose, it’s quite affordable and safe as the hospitality standards in Turkey are high.

The best idea is to arrive in Cappadocia in the evening so you can start your exploration early in the morning. A few great ideas for your perfect day, full of wonders, are listed below. An absolute must-do, and a key attraction is a hot air balloon sunrise ride. Balloon rides must be booked several days in advance. There are numerous companies for booking within the price range of $150-$300. The tour starts around 5:30 am at your accommodation and goes to the sunrise point.

Travel tip: Wear warm clothes as the mornings are cool here even in summer.
