The weekend starts now! Vienna’s weekend events guide for 2 March to 5 March, 2017

We can finally eagerly go out with the warmer and sunny weather setting in and amazing events to experience in Vienna this weekend.

Check out the career fair, open door days at the business university, the vinyl and music festival. Don’t skip the amazing presentation at the Museum of Applied Arts where you get to experience traditional handcrafts in the digital age and even take some pieces home.

And further proof that museums are amazing comes at Wien Museum in form of virtual parachuting over this great city.

For those of you who love dancing, there is salsa and the Techno Ball. With the International Women’s Day coming, enjoy the Women Film Festival. And finally, catch the last days of ice-skating at the Vienna Ice Traum.

• BeSt³ Wien 2017 – Career, Studying and Continuing Education Fair

BeSt stands for the trade fair for Career, Studying and Continuing Education (Messe für Beruf, Studium und Weiterbildung auf Deutsche). Whether you are looking to start university, you are in the middle of it, you have graduated a long time ago, there is something for you there.

Give those brain waves a workout and have fun.

You can expect presentations about studying possibilities, but also about possible careers.

• 8th Vienna Techno Ball

The ball season in Vienna is great because you have opportunities to experience the tradition and glamour of the old days, but also some balls that mix it up and make it very contemporary.

This Saturday, you get to enjoy another one under the slogan “Tradition meets the future”. This time, it is all about techno. But do not think there is no history involved. The venue is the historic Kursalon Hübner.

• FrauenFilmTage 2017 – Women Film Days 2017

When: Today through Thursday, 9 March from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

What would March be without the International Women’s Day! And in Vienna it comes with a film festival.

You get to see amazing films by women and they are not necessarily offered in the mainstream movie theaters.

Speaking of that – why not join a discussion on the (under)representation of female film creators in the film industry.

 

• Virtual Parachuting on Vienna

If you are afraid of heights but would love to experience descending on Vienna in a parachute, here is your chance.

Wien Museum has made possible simulated parachute jumps in cooperation with the Technical University of Vienna as part of the exhibit “Vienna from Above.”

Here is what you get to experience:

15,000 meters above the city you are in a Hercules-Transport machine and get to see the city and its districts through a few clouds. Then spread your arms and jump with the wind blowing in your face. You will land where you started – at the Wien Museum.

The number of participants is limited and requires registration

• ICE SKATING AT WIENER TRAUM – VIENNA DREAM

696When: every day until 12 March, from 9 a.m.- 6 p.m. on weekdays and the whole day on the weekends

Where: Rathaus Wien, Vienna City Hall, Rathaus, 1082 Vienna

Free entry for children and beginners.

Starting on January 25, ice skating and training rink of 550 square meters is open for beginners. The whole skating area is 8,500 square meters right in front of the Rathaus, Vienna’s city hall. Skates in sizes 23-52, and adjustable from 21-25, as well as helmets are available. Food stands provide nourishment when you decide to take a break.

So what are you waiting for!
