Bars, beer and Bicycle Week: The Berlin weekend events guide 2 March – 5 March

It is the first weekend of March, which means spring is just around the corner. The perfect time to take a bike tour around Berlin, to enjoy a drink on a rooftop bar or to stroll around an outside market.

Grab a bike and take a tour around the city during the Berlin Bicycle week. Stop for a beer at the Festival of German IPA’s at Stone Brewing Berlin, check out the market at SAGE Beach and support a good cause, celebrate the opening of Klunkerkranich or enjoy Walt Disney’s magic at Disney on Ice!

You can do all of these things and more in Berlin this weekend. These are the events you will not want to miss!

• Klunkerkranich Opening 2017

When: Now through 5 March
Where: Klunkerkranich, Karl-Marx Str. 66, Berlin

If you were to make a list of Berlin’s coolest bars, Klunkerkranich would definitely make the top 10.

This rooftop bar is hidden from the uninformed eye high above a parking garage in Neukölln. Klunkerkranich offers great live music and even better views of Berlin’s skyline.

After being closed for two months during winter, Klunkerkranich is celebrating its reopening this weekend with four days of live performances and DJ’s on their rooftop.

The first of many summer parties to come!

• IPA Madness – Festival of German IPA’s

When: Sunday, 5 March, 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.
Where: Stone Brewing Berlin
Tickets: There are limited places for the tours and beer quizzes. To secure a spot, call the brewery at +49302123430 or shoot them an e-mail at bistro.berlin@stonebrewing.eu

Stop by Stone Brewing Berlin this Sunday for their Festival of German IPA’s. For 10 euros you get to taste five different IPA’s in the Stone Brewery World Bistro & Garden.

If you would like to see more of the brewery, which opened in Berlin in 2014, join one of the tours around Stone Brewing Berlin.

They are held every hour and include a beer tasting, a look into the beer brewing process, a beer quiz and live music.

• Berlin Bicycle Week

When: Now through 5 March
Where: Different events at several locations across the city
Tickets: Check Berlin Bicycle Week’s website for the full program and tickets

Riding a bike is a great way to explore Berlin. The city is sometimes just a bit too big to walk everywhere and when you take the underground you do not get to see everything. Berlin Bicycle Week intends to promote the bicycle culture in Germany’s sprawling capital.

The Berlin Bicycle Week’s program is made up of independent events across the city, ending with the Berliner Fahrradschau, a bicycle fair in Berlin Station.

Throughout the week you can participate in bike tours around the city, the Bike Pulling World Championships, indoor cycling sessions, workshops or try out an e-bike.

• Erster Berliner Highnachtsmarkt

Where: SAGE Beach
Tickets: Entry is free

SAGE is a restaurant on a wonderful location near the Spree in Berlin. Their beach bar is a lovely place to hang out on a summer day.

This weekend, SAGE Beach is hosting a market to benefit SAGE Hospital. This non-profit organization supports a children’s hospital in Senegal.

The event is billed as “a wild mixture of the fair and the open air party.” Hence, the crazy promotional art above.

Entree to the market is free, but all profits form the stalls at SAGE Beach go directly to the hospital. At the market you will find dozens of stands, from South African street food to German techno music and Berlin artists.

• Disney on Ice: 100 Years Full of Magic

While most of Berlin is celebrating the start of spring, it is still winter at Velodrom. “Disney on Ice – 100 Years Full of Magic” comes to Berlin this weekend and it is the perfect family outing.

Mickey, Minnie, Donald Duck, Goofy… all our favorite Disney characters dance around the ice rink during Disney on Ice.

This year’s show features songs from fourteen different Disney movies.
